Origins of the French Bulldog
The French Bulldog originated in Nottingham, England during the 19th century. English lace makers decided to produce a smaller version of the English Bulldog, which they named the ‘Toy Bulldog’. During the 1860’s these little dogs made their way over to France, where The Toy Bulldog’s popularity significantly increased and was then given the name, ‘French Bulldog’. The dog breed once again made its way back to England. However, the Brits were not happy with the dog breed’s name change, although it was not changed back to its original name. This was when French Bulldogs were starting to be entered into many shows.

The French Bulldog is a small sized dog. Adult French Bulldogs typically weigh between 11kg to12.5kg. The height of the French Bulldog could vary from 28cm to 33.cm. The male and female French Bulldogs are generally the same in size.

The French Bulldog does not require a lot of exercise. The dog breed will happily walk for half an hour twice a day. Always avoid walking your French Bulldog in hot weather conditions, as they can over heat very quickly. Adult French Bulldogs can often become couch potatoes as they love to relax with their owners. When this is the case, you should remember to regularly exercise your French Bulldog to maintain a healthy balance.
